The Old School House Nursery, Benty Lane

The Old School House Nursery School was inspected on 4 May 2022 under the legacy four-area framework (Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management), with all areas graded Good and overall effectiveness rated Good. This represents a decline from the previous Outstanding rating (April 2014). The report has been mapped to the November 2025 seven-area framework as follows: Quality of Education maps to Curriculum and Teaching (Good, 72); Behaviour and Attitudes maps to Behaviour, Attitudes and Establishing Routines (Good, 72); Personal Development maps to both Inclusion (Good, 72) and Children's Welfare and Well-being (Good, 72); Leadership and Management maps to Leadership and Governance (Good, 72). Safeguarding arrangements are effective (Met, 100). The nursery demonstrates strong foundations with excellent parent partnerships, effective SEND support, and high staff morale, but the inspector identified a critical gap: staff do not consistently challenge all children or enrich vocabulary through questioning and modelling. This single finding is the primary driver for improvement recommendations.
