Kids Planet Mapperley

Kids Planet Mapperley is a newly registered full day care nursery (opened 2025) serving 136 children aged 0-4 across 90 places with 19 staff members, of whom 11 hold level 3+ qualifications. The inspection (5 August 2025) used the legacy 4-area framework (Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management), all graded 'Requires Improvement'. These findings have been mapped to the November 2025 7-area framework as follows: Quality of Education maps to Curriculum and Teaching (50-59 score); Behaviour and Attitudes maps to Behaviour, Attitudes and Establishing Routines (50-59); Personal Development maps to Achievement and Welfare/Well-being (50-59 each); Leadership and Management maps to Leadership and Governance (50-59). Safeguarding arrangements are effective (Met). The core issue is variable teaching quality due to inconsistent, purposeful staff interactions—children lack engagement during transitions, less confident children are not encouraged to participate, and babies experience lengthy periods without meaningful staff engagement. While leaders have curriculum overview and know key children's next steps, staff practice lacks consistency and challenge. The nursery demonstrates some strengths: independence-building routines, healthy nutrition management, outdoor play engagement, and small-group activities with songs and stories. The three statutory requirements (due 05/09/2025) focus on purposeful learning interactions, smoother transitions, and strengthened individual supervision to improve consistency.
