Marmalade Hedgehog is an Outstanding early years setting that demonstrates exceptional practice across all areas of the November 2025 framework. The inspection used the legacy 4-area framework (Quality of Education, Behaviour & Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership & Management), all graded Outstanding, which maps to the new 7-area structure as follows: Quality of Education → Curriculum and Teaching (Outstanding); Behaviour & Attitudes → Behaviour, Attitudes and Establishing Routines (Outstanding); Personal Development → Inclusion, Achievement, and Children's Welfare and Well-being (Outstanding); Leadership & Management → Leadership and Governance (Outstanding). The setting demonstrates outstanding curriculum design with excellent language development sequencing, highly skilled differentiation for all learners including SEND and EAL children, and a robust key-person system. Safeguarding arrangements are effective with an open, child-centred culture. The nursery operates a flexible, ambitious curriculum embedded in meaningful learning experiences, with staff who are exceptionally responsive, tuned in to children's needs, and committed to continuous professional development.
