Kids Planet Blackburn

Kids Planet Blackburn received a Good rating across all areas in their first routine inspection since opening in 2022. The nursery demonstrates strong practice in outdoor learning, community partnerships, and support for children with SEND. The report was conducted under the legacy 4-area framework (Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management), which has been mapped to the November 2025 7-area framework for this analysis. Two specific areas require targeted improvement: (1) staff communication practices with younger toddlers, where rapid-fire questioning limits children's response opportunities, and (2) inconsistent implementation of curriculum intentions for personal, social and emotional development, particularly around teaching sharing and turn-taking. These gaps, while not critical, prevent the nursery from achieving Strong Standard or Exceptional grades in Curriculum and Teaching and Behaviour/Attitudes/Routines. The nursery has strong foundations with excellent safeguarding, inclusive practice, and leadership support for staff development.
